History of the Department

Veterinary services in the sub-continent started in 1795 for the treatment of horses of British cavalry only and during the British regime this service was extended gradually up to sub-divisional level for livestock conservation.

In the year 1947 after the division of this sub-continent, the departmental H.Q. was shifted from India (Calcutta) to Comilla district H.Q. of this country which after several re-organization took the present shape and named as the Department of Livestock Services, Bangladesh with its H.Q in the capital city Dhaka.
